Tweaking presentations

Chapter 1

In this chapter, I learned that just because you create a powerpoint presentation does not make it interesting.  We need to be able to captivate our audience instead of bore them.  I learned that we can "tweak" our slideshows in three ways which are templates, color and type.  Nancy Duarte states, "You need to pry yourself away from the default templates with their preordained slide junk.  Think through what is really required.  What reflects your intent and personality?  What will act in service to your information rather than compete with it?  She continues, "Backgrounds are intended as a surface on which to place elements.  That are not themselves a work of art.  They should never compete with content."  We need to be careful the way we make our presentations.  One good example that I thought was interesting was not to put distracting additions on the right since we read from left to right. Color also plays an important role.  It was especially interesting to learn that the eye has an order in which it sees colors.  Yellow and lime green are seen before others.  Type is also important.  I thought that it was interesting to learn that when you type everything capital letters that it is harder to read.  I have taken that advice.   Great chapter.
